Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Preparation

Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, where you’ll be greeted by our Northern Masailand Safaris team. Settle into your accommodation at either the Parkview Inn, Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel, or Honey Badger Lodge, each offering comfortable stays and essential amenities. Spend the day attending a comprehensive trek briefing and finalizing preparations.

Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

  • Altitude: 1,800m to 3,000m
  • Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

Begin your ascent at the Machame Gate, trekking through lush montane rainforest. This biodiverse habitat offers a chance to spot Colobus monkeys and myriad bird species. The day ends at Machame Camp, nestled amidst giant heathers.

Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Altitude: 3,000m to 3,840m
  • Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

Ascend through moorland, where the terrain changes dramatically, offering sweeping views of the plains below. Shira Camp provides a stunning panorama, including a glimpse of the Lava Tower and the grandeur of Kibo Peak.

Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Today’s trek includes a climb to the Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This route ensures proper altitude adjustment and offers breathtaking views of the Western Breach and Breach Wall.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Altitude: 3,950m to 3,995m
  • Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Continue to Barafu Camp, traversing alpine desert landscapes. This camp serves as your base for the summit attempt. Rest early in preparation for the night climb to Uhuru Peak.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, Down to Mweka Camp

  • Altitude: 4,673m to 5,895m to 3,080m
  • Hiking Time: 11-14 hours

Depart around midnight for the summit, a challenging but rewarding ascent to Uhuru Peak. Witness a magnificent sunrise before descending to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure

  • Altitude: 3,080m to 1,640m
  • Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Descend through lush forest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificates and bid farewell to your guides and porters before transferring back to your hotel or onward destination.
